So that's the way it played out.
Now, resolutions!

This year was actually the first year that I made decent resolutions and planned to stick with them. Lets see how successful I was.

Stop biting my nails:
It's an annual favourite of people worldwide. Right up there with "Stop Smoking" and "Lose Weight." However, I used to gnaw my nails to the point where they would bleed while I was playing guitar and I am not cool with that. So, despite my utter loathing for nail clippers and scissors, I resorted to them and now no longer bite the ol' nails.

Status: PASS

Tell it like it is:
There is quite a bit of contraversy involved in this one. Basically me and a few others resigned ourself to cutting the BS and laying it on the line no matter what the circumstances.
Although I did tell it like it is multiple times through the year, I don't think I totally embraced it as a permanent personal stance.
But I like the idea of it. So in 2005, it will be continued.

Status: FAIL for 2004. Continuing in 2005.

Be more outgoing.
Though I have never been NOT outgoing, Its always a good goal to try to be moreso. Especially starting a new uni year and all. I think, for all intents and purposes, I succeeded, (much to many people's dissapointment.

Status: PASS

Resolutions for 2005 are as follows....
Continue to tell it how it is.
Get more sleep: I'm looking at being asleep before 3am on a weekday.
Drink WAY less coffee: Lets try to move to maybe 1 cup a day or less.
Get more excercise: It's a favorite, but I'm going to try.

Look at all the pretty colours!!!

Nick has been busy.

Work is still the proverbial whore as always.
Now we can't eat on the job anymore, which sucks.

Town last night for le sales. Waste of time and effort, but interesting nonetheless.

My folks have been away for the past few days, and now they are due home in about 20 minutes.
I think everything is clean!

I look forward to New Years!

*eyes roll*

Come back eyes! I need those!

Christmas!!!!!!!

Ok, So I am a day late. Who cares, you were all off too busy having fun with your family and stuffing your faces with turkey to care if I actually posted on the day or not.

So? Have fun?

Get everything you wanted from the Jolly Fat Man in red?

I received the usual swag of cool stuff. Some cologne, A VCR, Some DVD's, tacky underpants and a Moodswinger shirt. (from my cousin who makes them and sells them for fun and profit)

Ate turkey, Felt sleepy.

Same as all the Christmas cheer worldwide.

Everyone is sleeping today. I'm working tonight. Hopefully there will be too many people sleeping off the Christmas hangover and eating leftovers to order pizza.

I hope everyone had a restful and safe Christmas.
Drive safe now.

'Twas the day before Christmas...
Crazy stuff happening. Finally finished the Christmas shopping, caught up with some of this years graduates, spent more money, worked.

You get the idea.

Holy crap! Francesca is back!
Welcomed her home in true Aussie style, with lots of drinking.

She also has this cool little English accent going on which is pretty funny.

Was drunk and at Marion at 2am. It was packed. What the hell is wrong with you people?

Nick has his brand spanking new license renewal form, which in EXACTLY a month today he can use and get a brand spanking new driver's license.

I have a massive thing for people with green eyes right now.

Have to work tonight. Le fun!

A variation on an old favourite...

Ok, So we all know I am not the biggest Harry Potter fan,

(and not because I think that it is Satanic or anything)

However, I do love anything that is stupid, funny and annoyingly repeditive.

Enjoy.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better...

Sweet Jesus Titty-fucking Merciful Holy Crap!

Call me shallow.
Call me biased.

But Jennifer Garner is freeking hot right now.
and like, a gazillion times better with green eyes.

*whimper*

Things about blog.

I don't know why I do it, but for some reason I have been sitting here since 8pm working on this blog. It is now 3:30am and I still wonder what I have achieved.

Anyhow, another random update.
Please notice more links on the left. You can now visit Tokyo Story, Adelaide Blogs, AHA Direct and the Arnie Game from the "Other Stuff" links.

No other standout new blogs, but expect some in a few days, I have been doing a lot of reading over through the Adelaide blogs collection and there is a lot of good local talent around.

Also updated, I managed to spend 3 hours dragging out another list of completely useless facts about me. So there you have it. Up high on the left are 101 more things you never wanted to know about Nick and never really wanted to ask.

I also stuck in some shorthand notes in the music originals section. I will publish some lyrics in there in a day or two, I am just polishing a song called "Falling Up Stairs."
If you are lucky it will see the light of day in a few days.
Given that it will just be words, I can't do music just yet, mainly because I can't record at home just yet. Plus Dennis is sick, so band practice isn't on today.

Right now, I am le tired and I am going to bed.
Night all!

I never would of guessed...

There is an Australian Blog awards?

Damn well there should be! We have a heck load of kickass bloggers around!
Go the Aussies!

I think there needs to be a bit more publicity for them, because it seems like a lot of people don't know they exist.

And now that you know they exist...

Vote 1 Don't Eat The Yellow Snow!

Though I don't know in what category.
I'm clearly not the best Aussie Blog, Nor the best South Aussie blog.

I don't really think I am a comedic blog either. Or Political, or Photo, or Technical, or collaborative.

I guess I don't really fit into any category.

Maybe personal.

What about a new category for "Best Try Hard blog"?

Most average?

I have no idea! What am I?

Do I need a blog identity?

Regardless I should probably get an A for effort.
Fuck it!
Vote for someone better than me!

Oh God, Oh God.

There is some very very weird stuff on the net.
Here is something I stumbled across while blog-surfing.

Logical Date.

Basically, it is a school of thought that suggests the date should be configured in a logical order.
You know how when you state the time, you say the hours, minutes, and then seconds if nessesary?
Well, these people say you should quote the date the same way.
Eg: Year, Month, Day. (YYYY/MM/DD)

I guess it makes logical sense. I mean, you DO normally put the largest unit in the left hand column.

However, like most logical things; it has limits with practical application.

For example;
In setups like this, the smallest unit is often seen as unnessesary and thus is not quoted. If you were standing in the bank and asked someone the date and they said 2004 June, you would look at them as if they were postal.

Personally, I think it makes more sense to be counting UP.
I'm going to continue claiming that it is the 20th day of December in the year 2004 as oppose to it is the year 2004, December, the 20th.

Maybe thats it! Maybe it's because we speak the date more often and hence it has evolved to be read the way it is spoken.

Or maybe it is because the clock does constant laps of the same times, whereas the date is always unique.

I don't know, but either way, I found it interesting to think about.

Also, this is just plain silly.
Or I thought so. I hate it when that happens. People are idiots sometimes.

Best Tip Ever

Tonight I got tipped with beer.

That's right, some random teenagers decided to give me a Coopers Sparkling as a tip for bringing them pizza.

It instantly made my night.

Tip your pizza boy with money and beer this Christmas.

A blog entry a day keeps the head doctor away...

That's not to say that I am unstable or anything.

I am Jack's total fear of rejection.

Man I love "Fight Club". For no real good reason, I watched it last night after I got done speaking to you.

Remember? Right after I said "Oh god my eyes are burning"

I am Jack's burning retinas.

I think it could be because I am developing a little non-sexual crush on Brad Pitt.
But, I challenge you to show me a man who DOESN'T have a non-sexual crush on Brad Pitt.
Except for the gay guys who have a sexual crush on Brad Pitt.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I woke up this morning to million trillion degree heat. (That might be a small use of hyperbole)
See, My room has an east facing window, and is also on the corner of the house. Therefore, the second the sun comes up, it starts heating up two sides of my room and I start cooking.
It gets really fucking hot.

I am Jack's sweaty man ass.

Also, the bathrobe is one of the greatest inventions ever.

I am Jack's empty stomach.
Bye.

Falling Up Stairs

I am working Boxing Day.

I am also working New Year's Eve.

That isn't actually as sukky as it sounds. I am working 5-9 on the 31st, still leaving me plenty of time to get drunk well before the clock tolls 12.

I suspect the tips will be quite good as well.

Spent most of my day swimming and working. Not nessesarily in that order.

Saw "Oceans 12" as well. Not as good as the first one, but entertaining nonetheless.
MATT DAMON.

My eyes burn.

Think I might do some Christmas shopping tomorrow. It could be fun.

No, Seriously, My eyes are burning.

Time for bed.

America: Fuck Yeah!

Thinking like THIS and THIS , makes me angry.

The faster people realise that NOBODY IS PERFECT the happier everyone will be.
See, now I had to respond, with my view, which, most people criticise as being too "fence sitty"
You know what? I don't care.

I commented and I am proud.

Other than that large US vs OZ turf war that I woke up to this morning, I still have yet to start my Christmas shopping. I think I will probably just wind up waiting until sometime next week and then do it.

Francesca gets back in like a week! Awesomeness! There is a party for her, it is on the 23rd I think. Yay Beans!

Of course, it is coming up on a year since we lost Francesca, Emma and Hannah to England, France and Brazil respectively. It is bound to be mighty interesting when they all get back. The controversy! The Drugs! The Sex! The Scandal!

Ok, maybe not, but the controversy!

I was a full 30 odd minutes late for work last night after thinking I started at 5:30, and rocking up at to discover that I was actually on for 5.
Oops.

At least it was a slowish sort of a night.

And today is a slowish sort of day.
See you in the funny pages guys!

Dissapear in the Shutterspeed.

Man, that song is the rock!

Had a band practice yesterday and draft listed a new setlist/songlist for that 'gig' that we are going to do at some point.

Haha!

Initially it was going to be early October, and now, its starting to look like it is going to be probably late Jan/Early Feb. Fingers crossed. We will get there.

Other than that, I am still yet to start my Christmas shopping, which is primarily due to a large lack of funds. But today is payday, so that's all good.

Must dash. Back later.

Fuck chronological order and a pickle!

Hey all! For those of you who got out on the town last night to see Tokyo story, that was awesome! For those who didn't, well, thanks for nothing fucktards.

It was good. Really Good. I liked it a lot! I still strongly recommend that you pick up their EP
"Somehow Start Running"

They were sold out of shirts. Bummer.

Fuck chronological order!

Yesterday afternoon, being the corporate whore I am, I wandered on down to Marion and signed my life away on a new 3 phone contract.
My contract for my old one runs out in like a week, and I wanted some time of overlap.

Moral of the story?
You can still reach me on my old number until the 20th, After that I'm solely on my new number. Anyone who matters will be notified in that time,
and if you aren't...

well, maybe you should have a little think about that...

(It probably means I forgot you. I still love you. Really. I just think we should see other people. Get into contact some other way and you can have my new one)

But anyway, my new phone is a fairly standard "clamshell" style with mp3 player, camera, video camera, voice recorder and all those other wanky little gadgets that you all know that I love.

This morning I got up at 9am and went to finish clearing out my grandparents house. Now that they are both in full time care, their house has been sold, we had to clear out all the rest of the little mementoes and bits and pieces that people collect in a lifetime.
Things I took away with me were two ancient books of poetry (T.S Eliot and A.D Hope) a medical encyclopedia, some French and Ukrainian language books, Some of gramps' old tools from when he worked at General Motors Holden and a groovy set of brightly coloured 50's shot glasses.

Just what I need. More crap for my room!

Right now, I have to work. So I will be seeing y'all.

Saturday, December 11, 2004

Derka derk!

Anyone out and around in Adelaide who likes music and drinking, come by Jive on Hindley street tonight after 8pm for the launch of Tokyo Story's EP "Somehow Start Running."
Supported by Xavier Samuel and Luke Ashby.

It is an over 18's gig.
$5 to get in (it's worth it) and $10 to get in AND get the EP (That's a saving of 3 whole dollars!)

I'll be there, associated friends and cronies of mine will be there.

How about YOU be there?

Do You Eat? I Do.

Don't you hate it when you pour yourself a bowl of cereal and you get JUST enough in your bowl, then you look in the packet and there is too little left for another bowl, but if you add it to you present bowl you will have far too much?

It's a cereal dilemma.

Of course, if you have another of the same (or similar) type of cereal, you can do the bogan thing and pour one into the other, but then they mix and it never tastes the same.

The alternative is that sometime later in the week you have to have a tiny little bowl of cereal.

Or, you can suck it up, be a man and just pour that bit in on top of your current bowl and have a GIGANTOR BOWL OF CEREAL!

MMWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

But then you eat your body mass in cereal and feel sick.

I never want to see honey wheats again.

You take yourself a photograph and laugh at me.

Well, I did promise, So here they are.

Is that our very own Sean Howie in drag on his 19th? I think so!

Howie, Centre, in gold.

Unfortunately there aren't any fantastic pictures of it, but these are the best of a bad bunch. (eg: These photos were taken using a CAMERA and not a poor quality camera phone)

Also, Howie and the crowd;

If you look close, you can see many of my friends and cronies in the crowd.

Here's one I edited a little (using paint!) just to help you spot them!

For the unwary, we have: Nicola K in green with the camera phone, Marty in pink, hiding behind Nicola, A pocket of short people! Benny in yellow, Lib in dark blue, Daw in light blue, and right at back in red, Me! Also wearing a purple lei, and presumably leaning back to talk to someone.
Out there somewhere are other Nicola, Dale, Sam, Andy, Uhm, Some randoms from my primary school? I don't know, apologies if I missed anyone, my memory of the night is hazy at best.

In answer to your inevitable question, yes, I was quite bored.

Life is incredibly busy at the present moment. I think I will have to reduce my number of weekly shifts at work by one to leave me room for everything else.

Still looking for another job to earn me some more money.
I doubt I will be at Pizza Hut for much longer.

Anyway, yesterday I had shit to deal with regarding the sale of my grandparents house, sorting out personal effects and stuff that we had to take out before the new owners move in. Holy crap there is shit everywhere at my house.

I did get my Grandpa's bitchass old wolf lighter. It's cool.

Also yesterday, Laser Skirmish!

I know I know, its a poor man's paintball skirmish,
which is a poor man's gang war,

But it was fun all the same. Our team kicked the ass.

Dave Hughes is on Secret Life. It's fantastic!

Then, Late night at the Gov. for demo day.
There were a lot of talented talented people in the room, (and that was even before Daw and I got there.)

There was a good mix of music, from a female Oz. Hip hop artist, to an opera singer who doubled as a roadie, Various rock acts, a fairly decent original punk band, some solo acoustic performers and a couple of pianists.

There was also a Jeff Buckley inspired female acoustic guitarist I had to take my hat off to. She sang to the whole room, but you could tell she was only performing for one person.

Daw's sister (billed as Kassie Daw) is always a show stopper. She is really really really really really really good at what she does. She played an original song, which had more than a few audience members in tears, and then followed it up with an all singing, all dancing performance of "All that Jazz" which resulted in more than a few lewd remarks and whistles from the drunker members of the crowd (and a guitarist from an earlier act).

All in all it was a goddamn great night, the only dampener on the whole thing was the woman who organised it thinking she then had the right to talk for like 8 hours about absolutely nothing.

But yeah,
Busy, busy, busy, busy.

Why Won't You Let Me SLEEP!

Someone didn't want me sleeping in today.
Having gotten home at about 2am and stumbling off into dreamland about an hour after that, I understandably expected to sleep in for a long while before I had to grace the world with my prescence again.

Not so, My phone beeped, buzzed, rang and did everything that is generally annoying, causing me to pick it up and throw it across the room in what can only be described as a sleep-induced fit of anger.

The first message I got was from Canny, and my phone claims that it arrived at 5am, the flow didn't stop after that and eventually around 9am, I decided to cut my losses and get up and answer messages and ask God why he hated me.

Right now I am enjoying that obligatory period of calm that comes right before I have to go to work at half past 4.

Last night I played Bartender at Matt Betros' 21st. The role mostly consisted of me standing, opening beers and pouring drinks, as well as chatting to Betros friends and relatives.

So that was alright, I earnt some money, and generally had a pretty good time anyway.

Also during this time, I met with the Editor in Chief of the Sammy Sun for a symposium on blog writing as the modern day journalism. Of course, most of this happened while I was feeding him beer.

But that will be our little secret, k?

I have little more to say.
Anyone in the Adelaide area should get out to the Gov, tomorrow night to support Katherine Daw as she sings her way to stardom.

Till then....

Got Lei -ed?

Lei /n., pl. leis. (Hawaiian) A Wreath of flowers or leaves worn on the head or about the neck.

So, TECHNICALLY speaking, Last night I got lei-ed

Awesomeness.

Yesterday was the 19th Birthday of both Howie and Julia!

Happy Birthday guys!
(Even though I saw you both and wished you Happy Birthday in person, Screw it)

In celebration, yesterday afternoon was passed at the Howie House in his brand new "Love Shack of Love", drinking heavily. By the time it was time to head into town at about 9pm; I had been drinking since 2pm. Others had been going for longer.

Anyway, needless to say; we were all pretty buzzed by the time we got to Heaven for Timewarp.
It was AWESOME fun. I love a bit of the Timewarp, GREAT music that.

I love it. Danced for many hours, Enjoyed the 2 for 1 drinks specials more.

The highlight of the night was when Birthday Boy Howie, appeared on stage in drag.
(I promise I will get photos, there were several camera's and camera phones in the audience)

That will learn him to stick his hand in the air when two drag queens ask for volunteers.

In other last night related news, I was confronted by someone who recognised me from six years ago. She went to my primary school and was just randomly like "Are you Nick?"

Jesus, As if I am that recognisable from 6 years ago.

Anyway, fun was had, much alcohol was consumed, and everybody had a good time.

Hey! It's the second of December! Its officially Summer!
Wooo hoo!

I love Summer Holidays. And Summer TV.

I fucking love Scrubs.
